Velib

JCDecaux, the French transport and billboard advertising giant, operates Velib, an innovative public bike sharing system in Paris under a 10-year contract. Popular among residents and visitors alike, there are currently 20,000 bikes available at some 800 stations for users to utilize as transportation in this dynamic city.

There are two “one-off” passes that anyone can use, as well as three “subscription” packages available to residents or long-term visitors. After initial subscription costs have been paid for, users pay incremental charges depending on how long their bike has been out; half hour is free, with each additional half hour costing 1EUR.

Velib Metropole created its Comite des Usagers (Users Committee) in March 2018 in order to give users a voice, representing different user profiles and territories served by Velib. My Bike Heaven

Bicycle Heaven was established by Craig and Mindy Morrow to house thousands of bikes for visitors to inspect in a two-story warehouse, as well as offer rentals and repairs services. It may not be the world’s largest bike museum, but it certainly warrants visiting.

The collection at the museum includes everyday models that have fallen into disuse over time and also one-off bicycles, such as 17 Bowden Spacelanders (fibreglass-frame bicycles from the 1940s-1960s valued at $50,000 each).

Heaven, their own titanium hyperbike, claims to reduce weight while increasing pedaling efficiency with its unique design. For instance, its frame places water bottle bosses in cylindrical sockets so as to run stress-free. Furthermore, its carbon Heaven Master Mast accommodates up to 27.2 seat posts while using low torque fasteners that avoid concentrated pressure points for added comfort.
